Episode 011: Dads Talking About...IT

As a parent, having certain conversations with your children can be very challenging. It can be even more awkward to ask other parents how they handle these difficult discussions. I find that other family members or religious (ideological) figures can provide valuable guidance and comfort when you encounter "it" and feel like a failure for not having the "right" answers. We all feel like failures at times as parents, but talking to other parents helps us stay positive and realize that we also felt awkward when our parents approached us about "it" years ago. This episode was tough to share because the conversation led the three of us to discuss something we felt needed to be shared with others. It was amusing because we all understood we weren't alone in feeling unprepared for this aspect of parenting. Although it's hard to have these talks with other parents, setting aside the discomfort and simply asking, "How do you handle this?" can make you feel less lost. It's difficult to tell your kids that unicorns aren't real and that there are genuine dangers and emotions you want to protect them from. At the same time, you want to let them know you're available to talk if they have questions about the challenges of fitting in and growing up. I'm unsure if I'll keep this video up because I felt I stumbled through it, but sometimes it's better to dive into "The worst case scenario" when someone has a fear or concern, allowing them to share their own. Does this video help any of you? I edited the audio to protect the children's age and identity, but I don't think viewers needed to be part of the conversation. I dislike editing audio because it detracts from the raw buildup of a conversation that often reaches a climax at the end of a "Ride," and I want to keep it raw since I make mistakes and might say something I regret, just like in life. Ideally, I want you to watch my videos and feel like you're in a space where a conversation is happening around you. Hopefully, if you enjoy my content, I might have you as a guest someday, and we can discuss something you find difficult to express or navigate in life. Thanks for watching. Please let me know if this was a one-star or five-star experience for you?
